Water Projects, Sanitation & Hygiene

ATO believes that access to clean water, proper sanitation, and good hygiene practices are fundamental rights for all. In line with this conviction, we have implemented numerous community-based initiatives to improve water infrastructure, construct sustainable sanitation Therefore, to achieve this, we work to establish, rehabilitate, and upgrade WASH infrastructure by promoting the values of ATO. Through partnerships, capacity building, and awareness campaigns, we have successfully empowered communities to take ownership of their water and sanitation systems, ensuring a healthier and more dignified life for all.

Environmental conservation

We recognize the fragility of Kenya's arid and semi-arid regions and the urgent need to protect and conserve the environment. ATO spearheads projects geared towards environmental conservation, such as reforestation, sustainable resource management, alternative energy promotion, and climate change adaptation. By raising awareness and engaging with communities, ATO promotes sustainable practices that support biodiversity, mitigate climate change impacts, and ensure ecosystem resilience In line with our commitment to environmental conservation, this year ATO had the opportunity to participate in a significant tree planting activity on November 13, 2023, which was marked as the National Tree Planting Day. Under our leadership, we contributed to this nationwide effort by planting 15,000 trees in Nakuru.

This tree-planting activity aligns with the national target of planting 15 billion trees in the next 10 years. By actively participating in this initiative, ATO is making a tangible impact in restoring and preserving the ecosystems in the arid and semi-arid regions we operate.

Trees play a vital role in combating climate change, promoting biodiversity, improving air quality, and preventing soil erosion. Through our tree-planting activities, ATO aims to increase forest cover, create green spaces, and mitigate the effects of deforestation and desertification in the areas where we work.

Education

Education forms the cornerstone of sustainable development, and ATO is committed to promoting inclusive and quality education for children and youth in our target areas. Through collaboration with schools and stakeholders, we have implemented programs that enhance access to education, improve school infrastructure, provide scholarships to disadvantaged students, and support curriculum development. ATO firmly believes in the power of education to break the cycle of poverty and foster individual and community empowerment.

Our work in education focuses on improving how children and youth from marginalized and vulnerable communities in the arid and semi-arid areas can access quality education, considering their level of poverty and social status.

Freedom for education is an essential tool that enriches these vulnerable children. Education, through our programs, capacitates them to participate in decision-making processes that affect their future hence improves their social status.

Peace Building

ATO firmly believes in the power of peace to propel positive transformation. We actively engage in peace-building initiatives, promoting conflict resolution, facilitating dialogue, and fostering social cohesion among diverse communities.

We work to support and promote peace initiatives that are owned and led by people in their context. Additionally, we also work with the communities in designing peacebuilding approaches as well as setting priorities as defined by them.

Through grassroots interventions, ATO creates platforms for peaceful coexistence, encourages inclusive decision-making processes, and cultivates a culture of tolerance and understanding

Livelihoods

Our livelihoods work centers around the poor and marginalized communities to empower them with knowledge and enhanced access to inputs, services, technologies, and opportunities.

Empowering individuals and communities to create sustainable livelihoods is at the heart of ATO's mission. Through microfinance initiatives, vocational training programs, entrepreneurship support, and cooperative development, we strive to enhance economic opportunities for vulnerable individuals and marginalized communities. ATO believes in harnessing local resources, skills, and talents, enabling communities to build self-reliance and achieve economic independence.

Health & Nutrition

Health and nutrition are critical components of a thriving community.

ATO recognizes the importance of comprehensive healthcare services, preventive care, and proper nutrition. We collaborate with local health facilities, community health workers, and stakeholders to provide medical services, conduct health awareness campaigns, offer nutritional support, and facilitate training programs to enhance healthcare delivery and promote healthy lifestyles.

Emergency Response & Preparedness

ATO recognizes the importance of being prepared for and responding to emergencies that may In line with our commitment to holistic community development, ATO actively engages in emergency response and preparedness activities. We work closely with local communities, government agencies, and partner organizations to develop and implement disaster risk reduction strategies. These strategies aim to enhance community resilience, preparedness, and response mechanisms, ensuring that individuals and families are better equipped to weather the challenges posed by emergencies.

ATO conducts trainings and workshops on disaster risk management, equipping community members with the knowledge and skills to effectively respond to emergencies.

Advocacy

We believe in the power of a person's voice and its ability to do the impossible, battle inequality, as well as its call for justice.

To achieve this, we work alongside the affected communities, especially women and children, to build a just, free, and equitable society. Our advocacy work challenges the existing policies, systems, structures, and attitudes that make it difficult for vulnerable children and their families to experience life in all its fullness.

Through strategic advocacy campaigns, we strive to raise awareness about human rights issues, empower marginalized communities to claim their rights, and engage with government institutions and stakeholders for effective policy changes. By amplifying the voices of the marginalized, ATO seeks to build a more equitable and inclusive society.
