How we started.
ATO started as a Community Based Organization and in 2023, it progressed into a fully- fledged NGO.
Now its a registered humanitarian and development organization operating in the Republic of Kenya as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO)
ATO has its head office based in Nakuru although the main focus is not limited to this geographical area. When it comes to delivering services, we target the deprived and marginalized people in the arid and semi-arid regions including but not limited to, Marsabit,Baringo, Mandera and Samburu.
Our Mandate
Our founding mandate was to provide essential life-saving humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable communities residing in the Northern part of Kenya, initial activities starting in what is now known as Mandera County, in Kenya.
However, over the years, we have successfully implemented dozens of humanitarian and development interventions in Mandera County and beyond. We have been carrying a range of interventions in the areas of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), education, emergency preparedness and response, health and nutrition, advocacy, peace building, livelihoods and Environmental conservation.
Besides, we have been working individually and in collaboration with partners, and other stakeholders when it comes to advocating for the most urgent and pressing issues affecting the communities living in these areas.
We consider the deprived and marginalized people of the society to be the beneficiaries and primary stakeholders of our projects. Furthermore, we support the involvement of the locals when initiating our activities at the grass- root level.
